How to Find a Cheap Digital Camera

October 28th, 2009

Matt Peters asked:

Advances in modern science ushered in a wave of new technology that the world can enjoy. In the old days, photographers used actual bulbs for camera flash. Only photographers carry cameras because lugging them around isn’t really fashionable at that time. Discoveries and development of cameras produced the digital camera, wherein taking pictures isn’t so cumbersome anymore. It is less expensive because you can see the images before printing them so you could choose what to actually print. The images could also be uploaded to your computer for storage and further manipulations. These days, it not unusual to carry a compact digital camera. It’s perfect for capturing those random wacky moments with your friends.

The only problem it seems is finding a cheap digital camera. Can you even find one? Because of the features that are offered by digital cameras, they are often costly. That is enough to make any person have second thoughts about buying one. But for someone who considers photography a passion, affordability is relative. You just have to set a budget before buying a camera. You can find a cheap digital camera that is just right for you if you look hard enough. Don’t buy one that is more than you can afford, even if it has a lot of features. Make sure that you can actually use these features so that you can get your money’s worth. Consider your lifestyle and your objectives. Do you plan to spend a lot of time taking pictures or do you just want something small that can fit in your bag? If you are still a beginner, don’t buy a high-end professional camera just for the assurance of image quality and zoom performance. Instead, buy a cheap digital camera that is compact but has powerful features and easy to carry around. Explore the basics before cashing out on expensive professional cameras.

Though these are very important points to ponder when buying a cheap digital camera, you also have to consider the performance and features of your camera. Check the megapixels, zoom capability, image quality, type of media and battery. These are actually features that digital cameras highlight in advertisements.

· Megapixels – They are not the be-all and end-all of digital cameras. Salespeople like to throw this information to you because it promises clearer images. But this is just one factor that comprises your digital camera. You have to check the megapixels’ quality. Most image sensors can only find certain hues like red, blue and green. They can’t detect all three at the same time.

· Zoom capability – You’ve seen advertisements like 10x digital zoom or 5x zoom capability. While it is true, advertisers often forget to highlight optical zoom, which is actually more important. The difference is that with digital zoom, your image gets broken into small pixels if you enlarge it on your computer. If your camera has high optical zoom, you would not see pixelated images if you enlarge the image.

· Image quality – Check the quality of your image after you take a picture. Is it fuzzy or pixelated? Sharpness of colors is very important.

· Type of media – This is the memory of your digital camera. Find a memory card or stick that is compatible with your other equipment so it is easier to upload your images.

· Type of battery – See to it that your cheap digital camera doesn’t require expensive batteries or that it allows rechargeable batteries.

These points would help you decide on what kind of cheap digital camera to buy. Like what was mentioned earlier, affordability is relative for the passionate photographer. Find your niche by choosing the best but cheap digital camera.

Few Reasons to Prefer Digital Photography?

Kevina asked:

Today, more people are getting hooked over Digital photography. Since the birth of digital photography, it has been easier and more convenient for people to capture the best photos they desire. Digital Photography indeed has become the wave of today and in the near future. But what if you’re still using the old mode of taking photos- the film photography?

Well, think again.

For those few people who are still using film photography, here are some good reasons why you should opt for digital photography:

1. Generally, one of the most excellent features of choosing digital photography is that its convenience. Aside from the fact that digital cameras are easy to use since they are user friendly, these cameras are also portable and you can just safely place it in your pocket anywhere you go.

2. With digital camera, you can save your time and effort. Digital cameras provide instant feedback once you take photos. It has a review button to let you view all the photos so you’ll be able to choose the best one. At the same time, it has also a delete button for those photos you don’t like to keep. In short, you can keep on trying until you get the right photo. Now isn’t that great?

3. The next good thing about digital photography is its capacity to have your photos printed immediately. Actually, you can it is much easier if you have a digital printer. You can just simply connect your digital camera to the printer and press the button to print. On the contrary, film cameras takes time before you get your photos developed. You also have to go back to the photo shop to get your pictures.

4. Another great thing you can get from digital photography is the capacity to modify or edit your photos anytime. Since the images are in digital files, it is much easier now to edit them. You can simply open the images in any photo editing software supported by the file. With the photo editing software, you can alter or adjust the color of your photos. You can also crop the photo and design your own photo. All of these in one photo editing package. It’s more than what you can get from film cameras.

5. If you want to put up a small business, then digital photography would be of great help. Let your creativity works. Digital photos cannot just be simple photos. Now, you can turn them into T-shirts, mugs, invitations, greeting cards, calendars and a lot more. This is for the fact that digital photos can be printed anywhere and in anyway. Just make use of the right photo paper, and surely, you can make lots of money from it.

6. Lastly, digital photography has the ability to share the photos you have you’re your love ones and relatives. You can simply give a copy of the precious moments to someone everywhere. Just attach the softcopy of the photo to your email and send. That easy. But with film camera, you will spend money just on scanning the photos, to be able to send them online. Of course that’s an extra work for a digital photographer.

Apparently, digital photography has really paved way for making photography convenient and easier at the same time achieving high quality photos. It just shows that there’s no other time to opt to digital photography than now.

Komail A. Noori asked:

The power of the computer revolution is simple: once you convert real-world objects into bits and bytes, anything is possible. Nowhere is this more apparent than in photography. Digital photography represents the latest step in a technological revolution that began almost two centuries ago with Louis Daguerre’s silver chloride prints. Daguerre amazed the world by fixing the light from a pinhole camera onto a piece of glass, thereby preserving a moment in time for an eternity.

Today an inexpensive digital camera can transform that light into electrical impulses with accuracy and brilliance that even film can’t match. It can store hundreds of images on a sliver of silicon no bigger than your thumbnail. Those images can easily be sent across the country in seconds, be shared with hundreds of people at once, and even be modified to create an utterly new reality. The tools and skills necessary to do all this are within the reach of nearly anyone. You hold in your hands the book that will unlock those skills for you.

It’s fitting that the author himself has traveled a similar path. Mikkel Aaland has worked as an itinerant photographer, making pictures much as his 19th-century counterparts must have, in a makeshift studio-on-wheels, capturing images of anyone with a few dollars to spare. After nine years on the road, the result was his 1981 book, County Fair Portraits. Shortly thereafter, another legend, Ansel Adams, told Mikkel that if he were beginning all over again he’d be shooting digital. Mikkel took the great man at his word and became one of the first to use, and write about, digital photography.

When Photoshop was first released in 1990, a Michel reviewed it. In 1992, he wrote Digital Photography, one of the earliest books published on the subject, and he has written many more since. He has worked as a professional photographer, using top-of-the-line digital equipment, and as a proud husband and father he has captured his own life with the same consumer-grade cameras the rest of us use. He’s also been teaching digital techniques for the past several years on my TV, radio, and online shows. There is no better guide to the magical transformation of light and dark into bits and bytes.

Photography, from the Greek for “writing in light,” has rewritten our notion of time and history. Digital photography is reworking our notion of reality itself. One of the great technological innovations of the 19th century is once again leading the way in the 21st. Here is your chance to be a part of the revolution—to start Shooting Digital.

Make Use of Your Digital Camera (memories Last, Time Goes by so Fast)

kathypi asked:

It starts from the moment you step out to start your day,  take an extra moment and have a look around, not at the usual, cars in the drive way,  a distant glance at people coming and going, a quick look at the weather, then off to the hustle bustle of everyday living, but at the things you have been missing!.

You may discover there is alot that you had in plain sight you had not noticed before,  Let your senses guide you to some amazing things, (I should add here, its all free).

Next time you open your door, pause, listen, look a little closer.  You worked so hard shovelling, weeding, planting, watering your garden, why not get some beautiful images of the fragile flowers that greet you, (if you don’t have a gently blowing garden, that’s another topic, you need to look into!) “the beautiful images are worth the effort”

On a cold winter night you can look back and anticipate spring with a new urgency to get more inspiring shots of nature, that offers up some pretty amazing sights

I would suggest  to add a few birdhouses throughout your yard, you will be rewarded, the birds you will aquire can entertain for hours, especially in the spring, the baby birds appreciate an easy food sourse and will keep returning throughout the season, you may even get a visit from a squirrel or two, you may get them eating right out of your hand!, they like a quick meal too!.

In stead of your usual route to work or the mall, wherever you are going, take a different route!, a drive through a local park will present you with more than a few photo opps. Sights that can take your breath away when captured with your digital camera, an early sunrise can turn into yout favorite fine art gallery in your living room, or on the way home a beautiful sunset can complete the grouping! With the ease of editing and framing in our digital age this is not hard to do!

Oh, and that special occassion gathering, with a little planning can turn those treasured memories into photographs that would rival a proffessional photographer, but watch out you may make money along the way, when your long lost relatives are calling “you” to photograph their next special occasion, snap away and enjoy, “your new found love of photography”!

Is the Canon G7 a Good Digital Camera?

January 17th, 2009
digicams
Richard Runion asked:

My friend needed a good digicam and asked me to help him buy one. So, first, I went about listing all the factors that I consider important before deciding which camera to buy. And finally settled on a Canon G7, as the ideal buy.

While build and design make a first impression, and are important considerations, I also look at how portable a camera is, as you don’t want to have to lug around a heavy package wherever you go. The camera weighs just 320 grams — truly pocket-sized. Yet, it’s not a fragile device, and has good heft, which makes it comfortable to handle, and use.

The solid-metal and plastic build make the G7 a stylish camera.

A camera buyer is concerned about the quality of pictures it takes. The G7 has a sharp lens and good focal range, with noise reduction effective up to ISO 400. This insures excellent photos.

The G7 has good auto-focus speed, so an amateur photographer (like me) never has to worry about the sharpness of the pictures. The aperture speed is good, too.

And because there’s good noise reduction, you can hold the G7 at waist height and hope to take good pictures. You don’t need to worry about insufficient light, either.

The other features of the G7 make impressive reading: an optical viewfinder, a large zoom with a good range, audio recording, image stabilization, optional lens adapters, a wide range of parameters for image color and sharpness, a good built-in flash, continuous shooting mode, movie mode, etc.

An optical zoom is very important as it helps you improve the camera’s focus, just by manipulating the lens. Also, you can magnify a photo using digital zoom. The 6X optical zoom of the Canon G7 makes for crisper, clearer close-ups, without too much effort. The lens is equipped with SR coating, Canon’s new technology. This helps eliminate ghosting.

Don’t you like photos which you can make enlarged prints of? The 10 mega pixel sensor of the G7 enables you to do this.

The G7 has a 2.5 inch LCD screen and widescreen viewing. This allows you to see how good your photo is before you leave the scene.

You can do all this with any LCD, but the LCD should be bright enough to see, even in bright sunlight. You should be able to reduce brightness to minimum, in the night. You can do all of this with a G7.

The G7 has a DIGIC III Image Processor, along with Face Detection Technology; this guarantees better pixel count and clearer images. Processing and saving speed are also enhanced by it. Best of all, it doesn’t use too much battery power.

My only complaint about this digicam is that it doesn’t have raw mode. The camera processes the pictures in 8-bit JPG format.

This camera cost my friend more than most digicams. But this is more than a digicam; it’s almost a substitute for a DSLR. That means it’s great value for money.

7 Digital Photography Tips for Beginner

January 16th, 2009
Digital photography
Dede Purneim asked:

These 7 digital photography tips you can get started on your way to become an excellent photographer if you’d like.

#1. Digital photography tip: Learn your cameras settings

Chances are you shoot most of your pictures utilizing your camera’s “automatic” mode. This will get you average results. If you are striving for great shots, you’ll need to learn about other modes too. Take the time to read your camera’s manual to understand when to use each shooting mode.

#2. Digital photography tip: Take more photos

Before going crazy buying the most expensive equipment right away, you had better take more photos because the more photos you take, the more you’ll know about what kind of camera to get when it’s time to upgrade. In other words, you can always delete the bad ones later.

#3. Digital photography tip: Busting the dust

Digital camera with removable lenses are prone to dust landing on the sensor. Static electricity around the sensor can possibly contribute to attracting dust particles, or other elements to this sensitive area of your camera. You can get rid of the dust is a camera blower brush, and tilt the camera down while blowing. Take care not to get any of the hairs snagged inside.

#4. Digital photography tip: Use a tripod

A tripod will keep your camera steady which will make your photos clearer.

#5. Digital photography tip: Shot your subject at different focal length, angles, and formats

Shoot your subject at different focal lengths - using the zoom on your photos will not only change how close your subject appears but it will also change the depth of field (ie the blurring of the background). It also allows you to shoot from different distances which can really impact how relaxed your subject is (there’s nothing better than a photographer in your face to make you tense up)

Shoot your subject from different angles - it’s amazing how much you can change a shot by getting on your knees or taking a few steps to the side.

Shoot using different formats - there are different ways to grip a digital camera. The two main ones are horizontally or vertically but you can also get into all kinds of diagonal ways to do it. Mix it up.

#6. Digital photography tip: Experiment with different ‘modes’

Even the most basic point and shoot cameras have different ’shooting modes’. These are usually things like ‘portrait’, ‘landscape’, ’sports’, ‘night’ etc. Sometimes it’s worth flicking through these to take shots at different settings. What these modes do is simply change the basic settings (like aperture, shutter speed, ISO) - all things that can change the look and feel of your shot considerably

#7. Digital photography tip: Play with your Flash

Try turning your flash off or forcing it to fire in shots. Sometimes adding flash to a scene where there’s lots of light behind your subject is essential (even though your camera might not think it needs it). This stops those silhouette shots where it looks like you’re trying to hide the identity on your subject.

Digital Photography Tips to Prevent the 5 Most Familiar Digital Shooting Mistakes

November 25th, 2008
Digital photography
Linda Hayes asked:

1. Avoid Excessive Contrast

2. Use the appropriate Camera Settings

3. Use the appropriate photographic techniques

4. Miss-with the Flash

5. Excessive JPEG compression

Compact digital cameras are brilliant, offering more versatility and restraint than many conventional compact haze cameras. However, like most high-tech plans, you may find it frustrating if you aren’t receiving the outcome you want.

For best outcome you should understand how to get the best out of your camera in every shooting clause and know how to stop shared mistakes. Here’s a conduct to help you forestall the top 5 digital photography no-nos.

Digital photography tipped # 1- Avoid undue disparity

On living with harsh sunlight many digital similes can be precious by very high compare.Like untold shadow areas and very snappish highlights.

Excessive brightness is more problematic with a debit of conscript in the burned out areas, for example the brides dress or filthy coastline.

You can accepted ultimate differ from photo control software (such as Adobe Photoshop or Ulead Photoimpact) but even the most sophisticated software cannot truthful highlights by adding factor that was not captured by the camera.

preventive techniques: To preclude high disparity recall the following tips

- If your camera offers compare adjustment contain, exclusive the colors choice, not high disparity backdrop

- Select the low location in cheerful conditions which will help neutralise diverge and evaluate the highlights and shadow areas. You can forever raise the disparity in situation production. (Photo contact)

- Make surely your focus is situated in even lighting or better still, a sheltered quarter and not in diverse lighting (both sun and shadow across the theme)

- If your photographing people or subjects that are close by (1-2m), use your cameras in built update to cram in shadow areas. You will essential to disable the certain jiffy sort and instead change the bulletin on form on.

Note. Your cameras sparkle may not be real if your topic is a long space away, so try to get close to your issue or standing manually so the sun is behind you when charming the photo.

Overexposing merely compounds the conundrum so catch the exposure on your LCD protect and if you think it is overexposed, adjust the exposure with exposure compensation (e.g. -0.5) and take it again. That’s the beauty of digital!!!

The best shooting conditions: Naturally, exposure and differ will not be a catch if the lighting conditions are right to launch with. Overcast or somewhat unclear time are best for creating even lighting conditions for photos with balanced differ.

Also the light is regularly softer in the early morning and deceased morning and it is easier to locate manually with the sun behind you when it is junior in the sky and not directly overhead.

Digital photography tipped # 2- Use the appropriate camera settings

Digital cameras, especially high end guess models regularly multitude an enormous scope of adjustment options besides exposure and contrast check, such as fair tally dominate, ISO, serration and digital property.

If you have invested in a report-packed camera, you will be tempted to use them all but if you don’t understand them or use the mistaken site you may be disappointed with the results. Here’s a short overview of some of the important skin.

- White remainder is a figure that is very important to the end answer of your photograph. White total refers to the colour temperature of the light and the damage venue can stroll your complete icon an extent of unnatural colours (e.g. blonde, green or blue).

Many cameras have different pre-set sallow weigh settings for fluorescent, tungsten, burst, sunlight or auto. The routine white rest location takes out the guess work a lot of the time and is regularly the most convenient situation.

Again you can always hardship the white balance by merely charming an examine look beforehand and checking it on your cameras LCD monitor.

- For coating cameras, ISO referred to the pace of the dart and the total of the squirt grain. High ISO films (400/800) were good for low light situations or sharp action sport photography.

Low ISO (100/200) films were good for regular lighting conditions and portraits as you could enlarge the likeness lacking it looking rough.

SO for digital adopts the same colors as covering. In digital cameras, ISO refers to the sensitivity of the antenna to light or the sign to racket ratio.

The signify means the figure that you want and clatter refers to the raze of pixilation: what you don’t want. When shooting in low light you could desire a high ISO (400 or 800) so the sensor’s sensitivity is heightened and can capture a better exposure, but reminisce that this may exhibit more digital sound than a low ISO (100 or 200).

Another allowance of digital cameras is that you can change the ISO for each figure you take to match the lighting term. With a layer camera, the ISO had to stay the same for the whole pictures which inevitably intended that you could be trapped with the criminal ISO movie in your camera.

- Some cameras allocate you to adjust the saturation, colour tonal variety and serration. These features are worthwhile experimenting with as they can enhance some metaphors with great results.

Portraits can look more flattering with less roughness, for example. Nevertheless often birth-looking imagery are achieved lacking these enhancements or the same effects can be achieved in postproduction using control software.

So play around with these features first before you open taking important photos. Once you understand the realize you can use it only when you want to get that outcome.

- preventive rate: Digital photography allows you to experiment without killing money on mist or processing so take help of this and take as many photos as you can, analyzing what mechanism and what doesn’t. This is often the best way to enhance your photography.

Digital photography tipped # 3 Use good photographic techniques

Digital photography applies the same principles and techniques as are worn in conventional photography. A good digital photo desires to coalesce creativity and strict dexterity. It wants a piquant, interesting issue and a good composition besides nominal aspects of exposure, focus, vigor-of-ground, lighting and contrast.

Often the summit and shoot tailor of photography may be smart and cool but also, a bit hit and neglect and achieving a good result becomes a matter of fortune somewhat than flare.

- Use gravity of pasture to enhance your portraits and landscape shots. Depth of pasture refers to the limit that is in focus, and it is achieved by selecting the appropriate crack site.

For landscapes you should have most extent of province (large number in the opening site) for sharp focus in both the foreground and the background/horizon.

For successful portraits you should have a shallow strength of area, so the business is in focus while the background is out of focus (a small number in the aperture situation).

Most cameras will have depiction and landscape fashion settings which take the appropriate aperture setting for you and all you have to do marshal the persona.

- preventive system: The digital camera’s rear test can be worn instead of the viewfinder and gives a more accurate preview of the figure. It could also be held up to an arm’s span away to give you added flexibility in composition and perspective.

Be creative and shoot from a scope of different angles with up high or down low. Always ensure that your specialty is intense and interesting and your composition is not muddled or includes something that detracts from the idea (a daggy drivel bin in an exquisite landscape, for example).

Take the same photo from different angles, zoom in for tighter framing, or capture it in both horizontal and landscape orientation.

- Always look at habits of improving the visual interest of the figure using the camera’s functions. It will only price you time, not money. Remember with digital, you can always remove the ones you don’t like and you must only download and design the best ones!

Digital photography tipped # 4- Don’t lose-use the flaunt

The speed is a valuable appear of any camera, allowing you the flexibility to photograph subjects in low light or add impart second to capture conscript in shadow areas, but it has its limitations.

The current is only effective within a certain breadth and cannot illuminate subjects at aloofness (for example photographing the bride and tutor from the back of the church) or a large subject (the interior of an infinite mineral cave). The second should never be used when photographing fireworks or soil flute windows.

- preventive system: When the flash is ineffective or unavailable, try using a support. All cameras have a standard stand screw thread on the heart for use with a trivet.

This allows you to achieve longer exposures without the annoying haze of camera shake. Long exposures can emit very creative effects plus blurring the rush of water down a waterfall, or capturing the trail of car headlights along a road at night.

Using a tripod also offers you the plus of capturing the ambient light which is often very appealing and you also can avoid the harsh gloom and red eye stimulate which is one of the downsides of the in built flash.

Digital photography tipped # 5- Avoid excessive JPEG compression

Digital cameras allocate you to limited the resolution of each likeness to ensemble the necessary harvest, so understanding resolution and smooth magnitude is very important to your digital photography.

For printing and enlarging the photo, you should capture at the chief resolution unfilled in the camera. The record resolution employs a low reading or no compression of the sleeve, so the maximum total of information is retained.

This also means that it requires more recall so fewer metaphors can be stored on the cameras memory license. If you want to storeroom more images on your card, you can select a lesser resolution column with greater amount of JPEG compression. However, this may force on your choices when you desire to harvest the folder.

You may only be able to email the record or announce it on a website as it is too small to imprint. If you do photocopy the low res icon it may look pixilated without much detail or roughness, which has low visual draw.

If you desire to rearrange your image in postproduction, you will require to capture the supreme resolution free as editing (cropping, adjusting contrast, brightness etc) will affect a loss in quality.

Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

The different variety of cameras that are in use these days, range from the normal manual camera, to the automatic camera, to the digital camera. And the best place to find all of these is in the range of Canon digital camera models which are available on the market today..

Canon is constantly updating its products and you have a wide range of styles and features available when you go in for a Canon digital camera. These features can be found in many different digital cameras like that of the Canon Digital SD550, the Canon Digital PowerShot S2, and others of its ilk.

The features to be found on the different canon digital cameras can range from a larger than average LCD display, to stereo sound recording, to low image noise resolution and others. To see what the various features are for the different camera models you might have to compare them as you shop around.

For instance you will find that the Canon digital camera PowerShot S2 has a 5 Megapixel CCD, and a new Night Display which allows your LCD and EVH to become brighter in low light. You will also find movie options in this Canon digital camera like mic level, and a wind filter which can’t be found in earlier models.

With the Canon digital camera SD500 features like a continuous shooting mode can be found, as well as a redeye reduction option which has been designed into the camera via a built-in illuminator. This Canon digital camera also has a 1.8 low temperature LCD, a Flash Exposure Lock function to help you in your photography.

Some of the features to be found in these more expensive Canon digital cameras can also be found in the less expensive digital compact cameras. This diversity in features and models is also reflected in the price of the many Canon Digital cameras as they can start from about $100 and go upwards.

The actual price of the cameras should be looked into at the time you are thinking of buying your camera, as the prices will be subject to fluctuation and advances in technology.

When you’re looking at the range of Canon digital cameras besides finding out what are the various functions and features you might also want to find out what accessories are part of the camera, and which ones you’ll have to buy separately.

These accessories for the Canon digital cameras include things like a telephoto lens, a wide angle lens, a battery charger or kit, an A/C power adaptor, external flash, and a carrying case amongst other things.

As you can see from the number of options available to you, buying a camera isn’t what it used to be fifty years ago, there are a number of things that you will want to look into first before buying your camera. But with the Canon digital camera range the world can be at your fingertips as you can choose the perfect camera to suit you.

Thinking About Buying a Digital Camera

October 10th, 2008
digital cameras
Alicia Taylor asked:

Photographic prints, either at home, or via a development laboratory, or a self-service kiosk, are not the only options – digitised images can, for example, be uploaded to a digital photo frame, displayed on the Internet, or emailed to friends, to name but a few of the possibilities.

Types of Digital Camera

Digital cameras can be classified, broadly speaking, by their resolution – the maximum number of picture elements, or “pixels” that captured images can contain – usually expressed in millions of pixels, or “megapixels” (Mp). The more pixels an image contains, the less grainy, or “blocky” it is, so the greater is its overall quality. Less expensive digital cameras normally have a resolution of, perhaps, 1 or 2 Mp, and are perfectly adequate for producing images for the Internet, or email, or for smaller, say, 6 x 4 inch, photographic prints. Larger prints require a higher resolution, perhaps 7 or 8 Mp for 10 x 8 inch prints, and digital cameras of this type usually have higher memory capacity – a higher resolution image requires more storage space than one at a lower resolution – better zoom facilities, and other features. The Mustek DBV400 digital camera, for example, offers a resolution of 4 Mp, and the Mustek DV8200 model a resolution of 8 Mp.

Other Considerations

The level of complexity and sophistication that require in a finished image, or photograph, will determine the overall type of digital camera that you choose, and the same is true of some of the other features and functions that you may encounter.

For example, you may wish to download images from your digital camera to your computer – but this could be, perhaps, a single photograph, or at most a few photographs, which you want to email to a friend, every once in a while – or, on the other hand, a large number of high resolution images that you regularly need to download, for manipulation and editing purposes.

In the first case, you may well be able to get away with somewhat outdated transfer methods, such as floppy disk, or serial, or parallel cables, but these are limited, in both speed and the volume of data that can be transferred. In the second case, however, a faster, more sophisticated method of transferring data will be required, and you should consider a USB (“Universal Serial Bus”) 2.0 connection, or, perhaps better still, a memory card reader. The Mustek DV8200 model, for example, is an 8 Mp digital camera, which includes a USB 2.0 interface and cable.

Conclusion

Try to be realistic in your assessment of your needs, rather than just your “wants”, when it comes to finally choosing a digital camera.
