The Difference Between Digicams And Film Cameras

Digital cameras – abbreviated as digicams – are the newest and most convenient method of taking photos today. While these cameras may seem daunting to people, especially members of the older generation, they are really quite easy to use. One big advantage of a digicam: you never run out of film. Let’s take a look at the differences between a digicam and a regular, old fashion film camera.

Powering your camera is the first thing to cover. Both digicams and film cameras use batteries to power them so that you can snap the photo you want. There is nothing more frustrating than your batteries dying. Most film cameras, however, use disposable batteries to power the flash. Digicams use the batteries to power the whole camera. Most models or both types of cameras use disposable AA-sized batteries, but some digicams also come with Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. These type of batteries last longer in your digicam than standard disposable one.

When you take pictures with a standard camera, you can snap them in a multitude of frame sizes and at different resolutions depending on how fast the shutter opens and closes. These are imprinted on film and needs to be developed by a professional. Digicams use a special chip to record the photos that you take and many of them offer you different options and features for your frame sizes and resolutions. Developing is a matter of downloading the pictures onto a computer and printing them, something that can be down at home.

In order to frame the picture you wish to take, you look through the optical viewfinder, line up the shot, and then snap the pictures. Digicam owners can line up their shots using the optical viewfinder or they can use the small LCD screen on the back of the camera to line up the shot. The LCD will show you exactly what the picture will look like before you take it, which saves many people’s heads from being cut off in the picture.

As mentioned earlier, in order to see the pictures taken with a traditional film camera, you need to have the film developed first. Then you pass around the glossy pictures and everyone gets the chance to see them. In order to have them developed and printed, however, you must take the film to a professional photo lab and wait as little as an hour or up to a week in order to get the photos. With a digicam you can immediately download the picture from your camera onto your computer, view and the print the ones you want without waiting and without having to pay someone to print them. With the many different photo papers available on the market today, you can save a lot of money printing your own digicam pictures as many times as you wish. You can find a great range of digicams as well as many other electronic gadgets at GadgetsAuction.com

Expand your Digital Store With Sony Memory Stick

Brayan Russell asked:

Designed for digital storage on cameras, camcorders and other handheld devices, Sony memory stick has become a household name. It is a removable flash memory card that represents the whole genre of memory stick. Sony introduced it in 1998 with 4 and 8MB capacities that were increased to 1GB with the first Memory Stick PRO card. Sony has also introduced Memory Sticks for use as I/O devices in such products as Memory Stick cameras, GPS systems and Bluetooth modules.

Memory sticks are be used to save data of various types like text, audio or video files in electronic devices such as HandyCams, DigiCams. Memory sticks offer more storage capacity and faster file transfer. Latest mobile phones with sophisticated functionalities require memory sticks to make room for data to be stored by the users. Music, still images, videos, etc require plenty of space. Most of the mobile phones have limited data storing capability and hence fail to make room for all these. So, users find one trusted name, Sony memory stick , to store them.

Technically, a Sony memory Stick is used as storage media for portable devices, in a way that can easily be removed and transferred to a personal computer. For example you can take the case of Sony digital cameras that use Memory Sticks for storing image files. Now, with a Memory Stick-capable reader, a user can copy the pictures taken with the Sony digital camera off to his computer. The reader that is used is typically a small box, which connects via USB or some other serial connection.

Apart from copying image files from digital cameras, by using Sony memory stick , One can also copy other types of files, and that is both to and from the stick. One can also have readers that use PCMCIA, CompactFlash, 3.5″ floppy drive, and even some other formats. Thus, having a memory stick from Sony, you will never be short of digital space for his electronic devices.

Is Archos 604 Wifi a Good Multi-media Player?

February 16th, 2009

Richard Runion asked:

The Archos 604 multi-media player is available in two variants, 30GB and WiFi. Apart from the WiFi web access capability of the latter, the two players have common features. Therefore, I will discuss the WiFi model in this article.

The true test of a multi-media player is in its capacity to do all of several things.

So, in deciding whether this is a good product, let me first consider whether it is versatile enough. This device plays digital audio and video content, apart from displaying digital photos, on its built-in LCD screen. You can also display its visual content on a bigger television screen, or play its audio content on your home and car stereo players.

It is also a digital video recorder, has WiFi capability, and can perform many other functions when it is used with various accessories.

You can use it to record from television and other devices, and store and play back recorded content, in standard popular formats, either on its inbuilt screen, or on your TV.

Using the recording adapter the Archos 604 is able to record in MPEG-4, from various sources, including cable, satellite and DVD. MPEG-4, MP4, WMV9 play backs are possible, as well as WMV file formats. But MPEG-2 isn’t possible. H.264 and MPEG-2 files can be played on the Archos 604 WiFi model if one downloads plugins

Storage in MPEG-4 video compressed format is allowed by the memory of the Archos 604 which amounts in effect to more than a hundred hours of recorded video stored.

This player has the ability to access the internet, easily and quickly. Moreover, it can get audio and video files, with good processing speed, from the Internet, using the Opera web browser. It also has an adobe reader.

This device employs a docking station for digital recording. It has connections which allow it to play audio on your car audio system. It comes with a special docking station that you can use on the go, during a trip. A special helmet transforms the player into a camcorder useable with a digicam. Its other features include several headphones for WiFi use, a GUI, with a context-sensitive menu, an audio playback screen, a photo thumbnail page, and a TV scheduler.

The player has a scratch-resistant brushed metal casing, a 4.3 inch LCD screen, and a battery with a life of 18 hours, including 4 hours of video. The battery is removable. On the downside, the screen is a bit small, especially if you want to read web files. You may need to buy an external memory device to augment the 30GB memory. The player does not support some popular video formats, such as MPeG2. It comes with very few free accessories. It does not have backlit buttons. This will cause problems when you wish to operate it in the dark.

However, when you weigh the positives of this player against these negatives, it is a real winner, especially as its price is relatively low, for the value it delivers.

Cape Town Waterfront: the Fun Begins Here

February 13th, 2009

Candy Smith asked:

World-class is the best word to describe Cape Town Waterfront. The busy Victoria and Alfred harbors add to the hectic but fun pace in Cape Town. Situated Right between Robben Island and Table Mountain, the Waterfront pulsates with shoppers, tourists, holidaymakers, students, and business people getting into the groove of Cape Town’s beat.

Transformation

The Waterfront also known as the V&A Waterfront has always been the scene of harbor construction and land development since the 1850s. It is still undergoing development on land with the addition of buildings around the two basins—Victoria and Alfred.

The marvelous transformation made the place the no.1 tourist destination in this spot of the world, a perfect gateway to safari adventures, rock climbing, and other activities that make anybody’s holiday here spectacular and unforgettable.

Getting Around

There is no lack of Cape Town hotels in this busy port. There are old but grand hotels, apartments for groups and families, villas for romantic getaways, and cul-de-sacs for the budget-conscious backpackers.

If you plan to tour the city on foot, forget it. The place is so large, and you cannot see all the sights in a day. As a warning, do not venture out alone and use a belt bag instead of your usual shoulder bag or backpack. Go out in groups or get a local escort to stay safe. As much as the place is a tourist’s paradise, it is also teeming with undesirable elements.

There are sedan taxis and buses that will take you to the heartland of V&A. Car rentals are also available, but do not take a quaff of your favorite wine before driving because driving under the influence is strictly prohibited.

Places to See

There are many places to feast your eyes on but do not miss these two:

• Historic Clock Tower. You cannot miss the Victorian-Gothic-style tower that faces the old docks. The red and white building housed the Port Captain’s office. Inside, there is a decorative mirror room that provided a view of the harbor. The old tide-gauge mechanism on the bottom floor is a curiosity for tourists so do not forget your digicam when you go a visiting. Catch some seals resting in seal landing ground within the Historic Clock Tower grounds.

• Two Oceans Aquarium. if you are ready for a dive to get up close to the resident sharks the place is for you. You can go down in a cage or if you have a PADI Open Water Certificate, you can go and dive with the sharks. It is also here that you will see the Kelp Forest Exhibit. Get a kick from feeding the fishes and seeing real giant kelps waving in the 8000,000 liters of seawater.

Where to Eat

Baia Seafood Restaurant. The place is the best seafood restaurant around that tickles the adventurous taste buds. Dine at the balcony and enjoy the view. For R100 or R200 you enjoy a meal fit for a king sans the wine.

Salero Tapas Bar is in the hip part of V&A Waterfront. Indulge your Spanish Tapa appetite here with a glass of sparkling champagne.

There is much to see and do in Cape Town Waterfront and do not miss the best part of the holiday—great eats.

Digital Photography Lesson Strategy

February 13th, 2009
Digital photography
Kangaroo Jack asked:

More than likely some of your more recent goals would have been to take up a hobby that will include the latest in electronic gadgets. It will also encourage the mind to learn something new and at the same time allow you to indulge in a pastime that reflects your enjoyment for photography. Digital photography is an ideal hobby that mixes together all these three goals together. Now go out and purchase and learn to use your new digital camera.

If you are new to all this type of latest technology, it is very important to educate yourself with a well thought out basic digital photography lesson plan. Your basic digital photography lesson plan should include how to shop for a digital camera and a basic understanding of how to utilize this new electronic apparatus.

Some Basic Features

A no frills digital photography lesson plan will start with the purchase of a digital camera. Let’s not forget there are many factors that need be considered prior to purchasing your digital camera.

One of the first considerations should be the number of mega-pixels that the camera is rated at. A pixel is considered the smallest unit of a digital image that encompasses the entire digital picture. Therefore a mega-pixels can be defined as over one million pixels. This attribute of a digital camera is very important as the greater number of pixels equates to a higher quality digital image. For that reason it is important to select a digital camera that has over five mega-pixels.

Another essential learning step in the digital photography lesson plan is the purchase of a memory card. The memory card should meet your digital photography needs. Generally speaking the physical size of these memory cards are the same. However, the amount of data that the memory cards can hold varies from card to card. Quite often the memory cards come in 4 different capacities. Those capacities are 8MB, 16MB, 32MB or 64MB. Obviously the more megabytes the more data the memory cards will hold. Let’s not forget that the greater the capacity size of the memory card, the greater the cost will be.

Another essential accessory that you will need to invest in is the battery charger. Often digital cameras will expend the power of the batteries quite quickly, especially when the viewfinder is utilized repeatedly. Therefore, it is important to have a spare pair of batteries as well as a battery charger.

Basic Operation Steps

The next step that you will work towards in the digital photography lesson plan is the basic steps required to operate the digital camera.

When the power has been turned on, an indicator light usually signals to the photographer that the camera is ready to take photographs. Some features on the camera may allow for the activation button to be depressed without taking the photograph. This action allows for the lens to focus on the image to be captured.

Once the digital image has been taken, the camera may allow for the image to be viewed on the viewing screen. This gives the photographer the opportunity to immediately view the digital picture to make sure it meets their standard.

The final step of the digital photography lesson plan is to become acquainted with the enclosed software that the digital camera is packaged with. Often this software can be simply inserted into the CD drive and the software will begin to download itself onto your computer. In addition, a number of digital cameras are equipped with a USB cable. This cable when attached to a USB port on one end and the other end of the cable to your digital camera will allow for the easy downloading of the digital photographs that were taken by the camera.

Cape Town City: Get Into the Thick of Fun and Adventure

February 11th, 2009

Candy Smith asked:

All roads lead to Cape Town City, and the Cape Town airport is only 20 minutes from the city, so there you go. But for the first-time traveler rent a car to see the sights and visit the places regular transport or sedan taxis cannot access. This is the best way to get into the thick of adventure and fun in Cape Town Central.

Where the Fun Is

Cape Town accommodation caters to all types from posh hotels to budget rooms, so there are choices for every tourist dropping by to spend a week or a night in the city. If you want the business district or a place that gives you a feel of home and privacy, there is always a place for you.

So hop on and get going for some action in the scenic city. The city is relatively small, and you can go around on foot to see the sights. You can tramp to the V&A Waterfront with a local but get a ride to Camps Bay. Sadly, the place has a high crime rate, but that should not stop you from getting around. Do not bring all your money or show off your mobile phone and digicam to avoid covetous eyes and fast fingers.

• Green Point Flea Market. If you are looking for fun activities that will not burn a hole in your pocket, you might enjoy the festive atmosphere in the biggest flea market in the Cape. Who knows but you might spot an ancient Dutch tea cup here! There is live music to blast your ears, cafes for a steaming cup of coffee, curious like no other, and yes, people! Meet new friends and bump into friendly expats ready to give you some tips so you do not have to wade through the 500 stalls there.

• Castle of Good Hope. Hie off to Table Bay, and get a good view of the ancient fortress built with stone, clay, and timber by the Dutch East India Company. It was first a replenishment station for docking ships but became a fortress in readiness for war when Britain and Netherlands were not seeing eye to eye in 1664.

• Llandudno Beach. Just an hour away you’ll have a whale of a good time taking in the beach scene with waves continually battering the rocky slopes. The secluded cove is perfect for visitors some peace and quiet.

If you dare, sign up for the following fun:

• Hot Air Balloon Ride. Get a sweeping view of Cape Winelands from the air. As early as 5 a.m., you have to be at the meeting site. After rigging, be up in the air in just 30 minutes.

• Two Oceans Aquarium. Dive into the depths in a cage and see sharks up close and watch the giant kelps and feed the fish.

• Table Mountain. Conquer Table Mountain by climbing the rock or ride a cable and get as close as you hang to the gorgeous mountain. Or go abseiling and have your fun captured on video so you can show it off at home.

If you are planning a week’s stay, then you are in. The fun and adventure waits.

Make Use of Your Digital Camera (memories Last, Time Goes by so Fast)

kathypi asked:

It starts from the moment you step out to start your day,  take an extra moment and have a look around, not at the usual, cars in the drive way,  a distant glance at people coming and going, a quick look at the weather, then off to the hustle bustle of everyday living, but at the things you have been missing!.

You may discover there is alot that you had in plain sight you had not noticed before,  Let your senses guide you to some amazing things, (I should add here, its all free).

Next time you open your door, pause, listen, look a little closer.  You worked so hard shovelling, weeding, planting, watering your garden, why not get some beautiful images of the fragile flowers that greet you, (if you don’t have a gently blowing garden, that’s another topic, you need to look into!) “the beautiful images are worth the effort”

On a cold winter night you can look back and anticipate spring with a new urgency to get more inspiring shots of nature, that offers up some pretty amazing sights

I would suggest  to add a few birdhouses throughout your yard, you will be rewarded, the birds you will aquire can entertain for hours, especially in the spring, the baby birds appreciate an easy food sourse and will keep returning throughout the season, you may even get a visit from a squirrel or two, you may get them eating right out of your hand!, they like a quick meal too!.

In stead of your usual route to work or the mall, wherever you are going, take a different route!, a drive through a local park will present you with more than a few photo opps. Sights that can take your breath away when captured with your digital camera, an early sunrise can turn into yout favorite fine art gallery in your living room, or on the way home a beautiful sunset can complete the grouping! With the ease of editing and framing in our digital age this is not hard to do!

Oh, and that special occassion gathering, with a little planning can turn those treasured memories into photographs that would rival a proffessional photographer, but watch out you may make money along the way, when your long lost relatives are calling “you” to photograph their next special occasion, snap away and enjoy, “your new found love of photography”!

The Secret of Creating High Quality Image Resizes

February 10th, 2009

Alex Don asked:

The digital camera is one of the must have gadgets in this modern world. Now more and more people own digital cameras aside from their mobile phones that are also capable of taking digital pictures. This is because the digital cameras usually known as digicams can take high resolution and high quality digital pictures than the mobile phones. High quality pictures are best for quality prints and for online gallery compilations. When taking pictures using a digital camera, it is always recommended to use the best quality settings. This could mean a limited number of pictures that can be taken by the camera, but having an external saving device at hand could solve this problem. Another important thing in having a high quality digital photo is the knowledge in image manipulations such as photo enhancing, enlargement, cropping, image resizing, and others. Several special photo-enhancing software offer these services but more practical options are available online such as the reshade.com website that offers free services for online image resizing, enlargement and a photo gallery.

Travelers who love to take pictures of every place that they visit can take more advantage of these free online image resize applications. Picture resizing is needed to change the picture into a particular size that can fit their saving destinations such as email, blogs, photo galleries and others. Special resizing such as shrinking of regular-sized pictures is needed when the pictures will be used as wallpapers or screensavers on mobile phones and for use as avatars in online instant messaging services. The pictures that will be used for desktop applications must also be resized to have high-resolution desktop wallpapers. Such picture resizing and enhancements can be easily done on any computer. There are several computer applications that are readily available for simple enhancements such as the Paint program and other photo enhancers such as Photoshop. Several special photo enhancing software are also available for use in these services. The worldwide web also offers free online image resizers that you can use if you have an internet connection.

The use of these free online tools is more practical than the use of installable software such as the Photoshop. The online image resizers do not require installation thus saving more disk space. A computer or laptop and an internet connection are all you need to resize pictures online. The websites offering these free online photo enhancement services include the resize2mail.com, shrinkpictures.com, etc. The reshade.com is the most famous of these sites offering enhancements, picture cropping, and image resizing that preserve the best quality of the original picture. Their resizing service makes use of the advanced resizing methods available exclusively on reshade.com.

The online image resizing process is just a very easy task to do. It just requires browsing and uploading of the image or images for resize to the website and selecting choices from the online image resizing template then click resize and presto you have your new resized photo. You can resize your photo from a regular size to a different size without affecting the quality. Special shrinking tools are also available for creating high quality thumbnails and avatars from your regular-sized photos. Online image resizing can be done one by one or by groups as these photo-enhancing sites offer batch resizing and unlimited resizing for their members. Non-members can also do the online image resizing but their works will not be posted in the online galleries and they will be unable to crop images unless they login as members.
